An Award for Action

The sustainable development goals action decade international summit and the ceremony were held on May 8, 2022, at the BCIS Olympus Diplomatic Auditorium, BMICH, Colombo 07. The Chief Guest at this event was the Goodwill Ambassador of SAARC as well as the Director-General of Public Health Care, Prof.Sir.Dr.P.S.Sagar. Madam Linda Rose, Creative Development Consultant, was also in attendance from the United Kingdom.

The mission of this event was to send their message to the world on World Health Day. World Health Day is celebrated every year on 7 April to commemorate the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. Each year for this date, a theme is chosen that highlights an area of priority concern for WHO. The period from April 7, 2022, to May 7, 2022, is known as World Health Month. The event was organized under the theme ‘Our planet – our health’. Several lectures were given at the event on creating a healthier and more vibrant social environment in SAARC countries. Also, the invited speakers discussed the current crisis in Sri Lanka and solutions to sustainable development.

For this summit, the director-general of the volunteer forum, Mr. Maheepa Walpita was also invited. In his speech, he stressed the importance of watersheds, how youth should protect them, and how these resources should be protected for future generations. He further said that the youth should face the current economic, social, and political problems of Sri Lanka in a strong and strategic manner. At this event, Mr. Maheepa Walpita received the award for Role Player of SDG Goals as Action Leaders from the SAARC level by Prof.Sir.Dr.P.S.Sagar
