International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8, is a day to commemorate the social, political and economic achievements of women. Women in different parts of the world use this day to celebrate each other and to line up for equal treatment and representation. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.
An exemplary women’s day celebration was organized by SUNFO Global Federation on the 17th of March at Galle black fort. Beauty Queen ambassador Faith Hung Lin Lin from Singapore announced the International women’s day message to the world as the chief guest and guest speaker of the event. Dr.Deshapriya who was Director-General of SUNFO Global Federation invited youth activists including the volunteer forum and the volunteer forum was the only active NGO in Sri Lanka that contributed to representing the youth from those present at the event.
Little children from SOS came to welcome her and by carrying the boards of the 15 goals of SDG they walked from the fort entrance to the premises, giving the message to the society. After eye-catching and entertaining events the participants were given certificates to evaluate. Finally, with a mouth-watering dinner night organized by the former Galle lion club secretary and NGO lawyer Mr. Thilina, they ended up the event. They were able to give the message about good health and wealth being of women successfully sent to the world throughout this event.
