Under the “Apen Iskoleta“‘ project initiated by our volunteer forum organization, we were able to provide the school equipment required for the education of low-income students studying at Waturawila Junior College, as well as for their classrooms and teachers for teaching activities, with the objective of uplifting the education of the children of the country.
Thilini Perera, a journalist, sponsored our organization, which was coordinated by actress Sakura Wimalasena, a friend of hers.
We arrived at Wathurawila Junior College on 19th March 2021, as planned, and were warmly welcomed by students, teachers, and parents.
They had organized the event as festive as they could, where the students of the school showcased their talents while we recognized the talents and discussed ways to organize a program for them in the future.
Following that, the principal and the teacher who had organized this project appreciated our organization for doing such work as a youth group, saying that the work we had done is a great strength for the upliftment of the educational activities of the children at this school.
The ceremony concluded with handing over of books, school equipment, classroom equipment, and teachers’ teaching materials.
After enjoying the refreshments prepared by the teachers and parents, we discussed the future projects to be done with the principal and the staff. We felt very happy that our organization which was organized in a very short time period, had been able to be a strength to the children who will take over the future of tomorrow.
